Abstract

522,408. Stop-motions for preparing and spinning machines &c. HOWARD & BULLOUGH, Ltd., and AIREY, E. J. Feb. 8, 1939, No. 4122. [Class 120 (ii)] An electric stopmotion for spinning and preparing machines &c. comprises a tappet lever resting loosely on a fulcrum at one end thereof and oscillated by a continuously rotating eccentric working in a slot in the lever and a spring- pressed push rod normally supported clear of the tappet lever so as to remain idle except when the lever is engaged by a trip-lever actuated by electromagnetic means on movement of one of the detector devices of the machine and oscillates about the point of engagement so that the other end of the tappet lever imparts rectilinear movement to the push rod which is connected with the latch of the stop motion; the stop motion is particularly adapted for use in drawing-frames, gill-boxes, sliver and ribbon-lap machines, derby doublers, combing machines, speed frames, blow-room machines, flat card coiler motions, flyer frames and spinning and twisting frames. As shown the tappet lever 5 is loosely mounted by a slot 52 on the fulcrum pin 6 fixed to a base plate 7 and is oscillated by the eccentric 4 on a continuously driven shaft 3, the eccentric engaging the slot 51 in the tappet lever. The trip lever 9 loosely mounted on a pivot 10 has its notched end 91 disposed in close proximity to the end 54 of the lever 5 and when the actuation of a detector device causes the energizing of a solenoid 11 mounted on a bracket 72 the lever 9 is attracted by the armature 12 of the solenoid and moves into the path of the oscillatory lever 5 which is engaged by the trip lever and the end of the tappet lever loosely mounted on the pin 6 moves upward effects rectilinear movement of the push rod 8 to release a stop motion latch and cause stoppage of the machine.
