Abstract

<PICT:0589973/IV/1> Apparatus for preboarding stockings and other shaped textile articles of polyamide type resin, silk, or cellulose acetate, as described in Specification 589,967, is provided with means for supplying live steam to the pre-boarding chamber and one or more gas heaters for supplementing the heat of the live steam. Mounted above the pre - boarding chamber 16 is an electric motor 34 driving a fan 35 which forces heated air through a conduit 36 and through perforations in the faces of vertical channels at each side of the opening 32 through which forms carrying the articles enter the chamber 16. Live steam is injected through one or more sprays 50. The steam and air leave the chamber 16 through perforations in two vertical channels, one on each side of the exit opening 32, to pass through a conduit 39 to a gas heater 40, and are recirculated by the fan 35. Means may be provided for preheating the forms prior to their entry into the chamber 16; and gas or electrically-operated radiant heaters may be provided in the chamber 16.
