Abstract
692,133. Drying, fibres, yams, &c. PHRIXWERKE AKT.-GES. Oct. 1, 1951 [Nov. 16, 1950; April 11, 1951; June 14, 1951], No. 22859/51. Class 34 (i) [Also in Group IX] In a method of drying filaments by passage through a drying chamber supported in convolutions on an endless conveyer 4 the filament 2 passes downward on to the conveyer through a current of gas moving in the same direction. The filament 2 passes over a guide roller 1 and downward through a guide shaft 3, which has a thread nozzle 5, on to the conveyer 4. Gas is blown or drawn through an inlet 6. into the shaft 3, carrying the filament in its current and depositing it on the conveyer, the formation of the convolutions being effected by lateral reciprocation of the conveyer belt or by reciprocation of the feed nozzle 5 or by the roller 1. Drying is performed by means of electric resistance heaters 10, 10<SP>1</SP>, 10<SP>11</SP>, and the velocity of advance of the conveyer is adjusted to correspond to the rate of drying of the filament, the dried filament leaving the chamber through a guide 11 and moisture laden air escaping through an opening 7. In a modification of the apparatus (Fig. 2) drying is effected by hot air which enters through a shaft 13, an insulating zone 14 preventing heating of the shaft 3, the lower part of which is cooled by cooling coil or the like. Cool moisture laden air is discharged through a shaft 15 by suction and a flap valve 6 can be operated to prevent air circulation in the front cool part of the apparatus and regulate the relative amounts of cold and hot air drawn in through shaft 3 and 13.
