Abstract

In a continuous texturing or crimping process, thermoplastic multifilament yarn(s) is drawn between stretching rollers (which may be heated) and is then introduced, within a jet nozzle, into a stream of hot gas e.g. air or superheated steam, whereby the yarn is directed and hurled towards the nip of converging indented conveying surfaces formed on driven rollers or by chain belts carried thereby. The heated yarn impinges against, and is entrained by cavities on at least one of, the surfaces, passes through a clearance space between the rollers or parallel runs of the belts (which may be cooled by water sprays) and the crimped p yarn is withdrawn and cooled or further cooled (to set the crimp) by a compressed air aspirator and forwarded to "draw-out" rollers. The yarn travels through the nozzle, Fig. 4 (not shown) within a hypodermic needle from which it emerges in a nozzle extension wherein it is met by the gas stream which has been directed from a supply pipe through an extended chamber of annular cross-section concentric with the needle.
