Abstract

683,075. Finishing fabrics. ADSHEAD & GEESON, Ltd., and GEESON, T. Nov. 15, 1950. [Nov. 16, 1949] No. 29367/49. Class 42 (i). Knitted fabrics in tubular form made from nylon yarns or other synthetic linear polyamide, or from mixtures thereof, with other natural or synthetic fibres, are stabilized and set by passing the fabric either continuously or intermittently through steam, which may be superheated, then through hot dry air, then over in contact with a surface heated to 300‹F. or higher, but less than the melting point of synthetic linear polyamide. The fabric is folded or plaited at the bottom of a container F surrounding a tube A, and is drawn over a conical member a and a steam head B mounted thereon, the latter having a series of nozzles for spraying steam on the fabric. The fabric then passes around, and in contact with, the walls of a chamber C, heated internally by a thermostatically controlled electrical heater, or otherwise, and mounted some distance beyond the steam head B, leaving an air gap between these members. Additional hot dry air may be supplied to this gap by a tube running through the tube A. The treated fabric is drawn off by rollers D.
