Abstract
631,456. Knitting. WOLSEY, Ltd., ALEXANDER, P., BURROWS, H., and SMITH, P. D. June 14, 1946, No. 17884. [Class 74 (ii)] Hot air is directed, in the vicinity of the needles, on to fabric i knitted from wetted thermoplastic yarn. The air is discharged from perforations in a cylinder h, Fig. 1, beneath the trapper plate e; or from the upper end of the annular space between the take-off cylinder b, Fig. 3, and a liner n, to which space the air is supplied through perforations in that part of the cylinder b lying between packing rings m; or on to the yarn loops on the needles from a position outside the needles. The temperature (150- 280‹ C.) and velocity of the air are such that the temperature of the yarn is raised to or above the boiling point of water before the moisture has evaporated. According to the Provisional Specification the temperature of the hot air may be about 100-130‹ C. Water, soap or detergent solution, or an oil-in-water emulsion is used for wetting. The yarn may be made from those substances known under the Registered Trade Marks " Vinyon " and " Saran," or from vinyl chloride, cellulose acetate, or vinylidine chloride.
