Abstract

677,214. Stockings; pleating. SANSON HOSIERY MILLS, Inc. Nov. 27, 1950 [April 7, 1950], No. 28978/50. Class 141. A stocking is plain-knitted from artificial yarn, e.g. nylon, which can be set by heat treatment, and is provided with pleats extending substantially lengthwise, the creases defining the pleats being permanently set into the fabric and being visible when the stocking is relaxed but disappearing when the stocking is worn. As shown, the creases 13, 14 extend alternately outwardly and inwardly of the fabric F thus forming accordion pleats. The creases may extend walewise of the fabric or at an angle to the wales or in two directions at angles to each other. The creases may be formed by passing the stocking, laid flat between two strips of paper, through. a pleating machine and subsequently subjecting it to steam at suitable temperature and pressure.
