Abstract

582,867. Knitting. KARGER, G. Sept. 14, 1944, No. 17587. [Class 74 (ii)] The hand portion only, or the whole, of a glove or mitten is knitted so as to provide sections formed from contrasting yarns joined together at the edges to form tubular work. The yarns may contrast as regards colour or material, or both, and may be patterned by stitch variation. The glove or mitten may be knitted upon a machine comprising two needle beds, and having conventional cams 9, 12 for operating the needles N of one bed, and two spaced cam systems 17, 18 and 19, 20 for operating the needles N<1> of the other bed. Guides 25, 26 are provided for feeding the contrasting yarns Y, Y' to the two sets of needles, and in each stroke of the cam carriage the yarn Y is supplied to and knitted by the needles N before the yarn Y<1> is supplied to the needles N', and further the yarns Y, Y' are crossed at the selvedges of the contrasting sections of fabric thus produced so as to form tubular work.
