Abstract

On a circular knitting machine, a fabric guide has a square face (17 A, B, C, D) and separation elements (15) leading to a point (E, F). The guide converts the knitted tubular fabric (10) to a flat shape which passes through the take-up rollers (13) on to a winding support. Known devices for winding knitted tubes produce series defects in the fabric. The fabric may change in width, the rows of stitches become distorted, and lateral folds may appear. Tension may build up, with harmful effects on the knitting machinery, especially the needles, the needle beds and the selection cams. The device avoids such faults by rendering the take-up tensions homogeneous all around the knitted tube.
