Abstract
589,889. Double-glazed windows. BROWN, J. R. March 19, 1945, No. 6877. [Class 20 (iii)] In a double-glazed windowscreen, window, or other panel the two layers 8, 9 of transparent material are carried each in a corresponding part 1, 3 of a two-part frame which can be separated as shown to allow access for cleaning to the space between the layers, a resilient marginal spacing element 10 being compressed between the layers when the frame is closed to form a fluid-tight seal. As shown, the part 3 of the frame is hinged to the part 1 and is held in the closed position by a spring catch 6. In other forms, the part 3 is wholly removable from the part 1. The spacing-element 10 is formed with an extension 11 providing a packing round the glazing 8, which may be of laminated safety glass. The packing 10 may be of rubber or leather, or may have a felt or leather core with a rubber covering. It may comprise a relatively hard core covered on three sides with relatively flexible material, Fig. 13 showing a form of this construction in which the core is formed by a metal spring 27 of U-section. Fig. 10 shows a form in which springs 22 urge apart members 20, 21 enclosed in an envelope 23 of rubber &c.
