Abstract
589,157. Rifle sights. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd., and PERRY, C. A. March 8, 1945, No. 5744. [Class 119] A tunnel foresight of the kind having a peripheral slot into which a sighting piece is inserted has a cover member to shroud and retain the sighting piece.. The cylindrical sleeve 7, held by a dowel pin 9, is supported by cylindrical lugs 5. A slot, wide enough to receive a thin annular sighting piece 11, extends through 180 degrees of the circumference. The diameter of the upper part of the sighting piece is greater than that of the sleeve of the lower part, so that it rests on the shoulders 13 and stands proud of the sleeve to facilitate removal. A rotatable cylindrical cover, or shroud 19, is provided to hold the sighting piece in place and has a peripheral 180 degree slot and a groove 23 mid-way of its length. The shroud is held in the two required positions, either completely covering the sighting piece or with the slot uppermost to remove the piece, by engagement of a spring-pressed detent 29 with one of two depresssions 27.
