Abstract

331,994. Vickers-Armstrongs, Ltd., and Hampton, E. R. May 21; 1929. Ordnance, adapting for miniature ammunition practice. - An aiming-tube C, for use with a parent gun A having breech mechanism of the screw-carrier type, is adapted for use with barecharge ammunition by replacing the usual obturator by one of smaller size which fits a cone-seat C<1> on the aiming-tube. The small obturator has an axial vent to enable the firing gear of the parent gun to be used with the usual vent-sealing tubes. The breech-screw of the parent gun is replaced by a locking member D engaging the interrupted threads on the breechchamber. The aiming-tube has a screwed or integral flange C<5> formed with interrupted threads also engaging the threads of the breech-chamber, and is centred and supported in the gun by a fixed collar C<6>, and by spring-pressed sliding collars C', C<9>. A catch E engages a screwed segment of the gun to fasten the aiming-tube.
