587,278. Brick-sanding machines. JOHNSON, J A., and WALKER, F. June 2, 1944, No. 10631. [Class 87 (ii)] In a sanding-machine of the type in which sand is caused to impinge upon bricks by means of compressed air blowers, the blowers are self contained, electrically driven and are connected to the brick feeding apparatus so as to form a single unit with it. A double endless belt 27, 27 runs over pulleys 22, 23, 24, 25 and a single belt over pulleys 30, 31. These belts are arranged to overlap in such a manner (Fig. 2) that bricks 17 can be passed from one to the other. As the bricks pass through a cylindrical encasement 1 the upwardly directed nozzle 16 of a blower 11 sands the underside of the bricks between the double belts 17, 17 and four other blowers (Fig. 3) 11 sand the end portions of the underside and the tops and sides. Sand is supplied by pipes 9 from a hopper 8 to the bottom of the encasement 1 whence it passes through inlet pipes 12 to the blowers 11. These inlet pipes 12 have extensible ends. The Provisional Specification describes also a sanding machine in which a column of clay passes directly from a pug mill into an encasement where it is sanded before individual bricks are cut from it.
