Abstract
399,599. Wool-cleaning processes. PATERSON, J. F., Inveresk, Benalla Road, Shepparton, Victoria, Australia. May 23, 1932, No. 14572. [Class 138 (i).] A process for cleansing raw or manufactured wool consists in dusting the wool with finelydivided dry raw gypsum, revolving it in one or more drums in a machine, and discharging it on to an endless continuously-moving vibratory perforated conveyer by which it is taken into a conduit where it is treated by suction before delivery from the machine. In the construction shown, drums 4 containing wool dusted with dry raw gypsum are rotated by means of an electric motor 6, and afterwards discharge the wool on to an endless conveyer 18. The conveyer, which is perforated or made of slats, is driven by the motor 6 through the medium of sprockets 17, which are mounted on shafts carrying pulleys 9. The pulleys are capable of limited movement on rails 10, such movement being imparted, by means of a crank 12 and connecting-rod 11, from the spindle of a driven pulley 13. The wool passes under a tunnel 20 where it is subjected to suction drawing the gypsum and dust through a pipe 22, to be collected in a chamber 24 fitted with a gauze filter 25.
