Abstract

445,216. Bricks &c. SUTCLIFFE, H., 27, Marquis Avenue, and HEARTH, G., 6, Marquis Avenue, Bury, Lancashire. Dec. 21, 1934, No. 36673. [Class 87 (i)] [See also Group V] To mark the surfaces of bricks, the clay column, while in the plastic state, is engaged by chains or like flexible elements secured to one or more rollers, rotated so that the chains are thrown out by centrifugal force. The clay column a is traversed through the machine on an endless conveyer b. Prior to reaching the marking rollers, sand is applied to the exposed faces of the column from a bin t with three delivery passages u, v, w. The side passages deliver to casings x having rubber jointing pieces z for ensuring proper delivery to the column, the casings housing driven feed worms y. The central passage has a vertically slidable delivery portion 10 urged downwardly by springs 12 and provided with a roller 13 engaging the column. Driven rollers 25, 26 at the sides of the column carry chains 27 of varying lengths. A slide 14 reciprocated by an eccentric 16 and lever 18 carries a roller 20 similarly. provided with chains and having a chain wheel gearing with a driven chain 21. According to the Provisional Specification, the sand may be thrown on to the column by centrifugal devices.
