Abstract

839,655. Sanding bricks, tiles &c. CLAPHAM COMMON BRICK & TILE CO. Ltd., JORDAN, R. C., and JORDAN, R. J. Dec. 29, 1958 [Oct. 16, 1957], No. 32355/57. Class 87(2). Sand is conveyed to the undersurface of an extended column of clay 1 by a belt 10 converging onto and being frictionally driven by the column, and is pressed into the clay by a roller 12 around which the belt 10 passes. The column is divided, before or after sanding, into individual bricks, tiles or the like. The sand is supplied to the belt 10 from a hopper (not shown) having a conduit 14 with a discharge aperture 15 spaced a short distance above the belt so that the sand is carried away from the aperture by the movement of the belt but if that movement ceases then the flow of sand stops automatically. In the case of a rectangular column of clay, the remaining three faces may be sanded by a known method using a conduit 2 from the hopper, a plough 4 to divert some of the sand over the sides of the column, and rollers 5, 8 for pressing the sand into the clay.
