Abstract

582,490. Velocity-modulated tubes. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and SCOTT, W. J. Feb. 4, 1942, No. 1503. [Class 39 (i)] In order to prevent trapping of electrons in the gap of a rhumbatron, the edges of the gap are made discontinuous by needle-like projections 2, Fig. 2, or serrations 3, Fig. 4, or the gap is covered by a corrugated grid 4, Fig. 6, or by a grid made up of serrated slats 6, Fig. 8. The form shown in Fig. 4 may be made by pressing a sheet which has had a star-shaped hole stamped out of it. The slats 6 may be interrupted in the centre to allow for expansion. Specification 582,484 is referred to.
