Abstract
582,287. Gravity catches. TIERNEY, J. L. Aug. 30, 1944, No. 16502. [Class 44] A gravity actuated catch for gates comprises a disc 1 having an integral handle 2 supported in a U- shaped bracket 5 by means of a pivot pin 4 in the bracket passing through an arcuate slot 3 in the disc, and a pin 8 on the disc working in a slot 9 in one arm oi the bracket. The striker bar 10 fixed to the gate actuates the catch in the usua manner. The disc may have a hole 14 for the reception of a peg which by resting on the top of the bracket holds the catch in raised position, and an opening 17 for the hasp of a padlock. In the form shown in Fig 3, a projection 19 riding on the top of the bracket takes the place of the pin 8, and a projection 12 on the disc abuts against the bracket to prevent contact of the handle with the gate post.
