Abstract
385,532. Gate &c. fastenings. PHAIR, W., Belturbet, Co. Cavan, Irish Free State, and LESLIE, R. A., Enniskillen, Northern Ireland. June 21, 1932, No. 17495. [Class 44.] A fastening for gates, doors, &c. comprises a horizontal arm 1 secured to the gate post by staggered flanges 4, and shouldered at 2 to form an abutment for a member 3 mounted on the gate &c. and spaced therefrom by a distance-piece 17. At the outer end of arm 1 is pivoted a gravity operated catch 6 bifurcated to embrace arm 1 in plan, Fig. 2. On closing the gate &c. member 3 lifts the catch by engagement with a cam surface 15 thereon, the catch falling to engage member 3 in a recess 8 in the catch when said member is against shoulder 2. A tail-piece 14 limits upward movement by engagement with a flange 4. The catch may be raised to effect release by pressing on a finger-piece 12, or by pressing in a plunger 9 against the action of a spring 10, the end 11 engaging the piece 12. The plunger has a guide-slot 20 engaged by a stud 21 fixed to arm 1. The device may be locked against release by a pin or the shackle of a padlock being passed through registering apertures 13 in the catch 6 and arm 1.
