[Class 44] A fastening particularly for doors of road vehicles comprises a vertically slidable bolt f which projects into a transverse recess d provided in the end b of the casing. The bolt, which, as described is cylindrical or provided with a roller, has a reduced stem e which passes through a vertical guide-slot g and is secured to one web of a sliding angle-plate h, the other web of which is of V-form flattened at n. The bolt is biassed to its upper or release position by a tension spring i anchored to the inner end of stem e and to a pivoted safety catch u the free end of which projects downwards into recess d. Downward movement of catch u is limited by a stop w. Recess d is of tapering form and receives a correspondingly shaped keeper block r with a recess t engaged by catch u and a curved bolt;receiving slot s which positively moves the bolt down to the locking position shown by cam action. The bolt is retained in this position by a horizontally sliding detent i with a recess embracing the V-form portion of plate h, as shown, under the action of a tension spring o. The detent is retracted by inside and outside handles operating corresponding followers p which engage projection q. A projection v raises catch u and the detent is retained in retracted position until the door is closed by flat n riding on to the vertical end of the detent.
