581,172. Roads, pavements &c. WEBSTER, V. C. STEER-. Aug. 17, 1942, No. 11546. [Class 107] A temporary road, a runway for aeroplanes or boats, or a like support is formed on unstable ground by the use of units each comprising a series of spaced blocks strung together by rods or the like, the blocks of one unit filling the spaces of a companion unit. Concrete &c. blocks k are mounted on metal rods l and may have rod, wire or other reinforcement l<1>, the blocks having flat or slightly rounded upper and lower surfaces and being wedge-shaped in transverse and longitudinal section whereby the spaces between the blocks may be filled by the blocks of a reversed unit. Each unit may be arranged to interlock with more than one other unit. Each block may have a fillet or other weakening m at which fracture is caused on undue movement of the road &c. surface, while recesses n are provided to receive the rods l of a co-operating unit; recesses o may also be provided.
