Abstract
362,222. Roads and ways. EDWARDS, F. W., 13, Highfield Road, Birkenhead, Cheshire. Jan. 29, 1931, No. 2876. [Classes 20 (iv) and 107.] A reinforcement or strengthening framework for roads comprises longitudinally arranged metal bars C connected by angle brackets E with equally spaced transverse bars D, and is supported on a series of longitudinal and transverse sleepers A, B with the transverse bars bolted on to the longitudinal sleepers and the longitudinal bars bolted on to the transverse sleepers. The longitudinal bars C are connected end to end by fishplates F. The spaces between the sleepers and bars are filled with concrete, stone, or wood setts, tarmacadam, or other road material sufficient to cover the whole of the reinforcement. The sleepers may be of concrete, reinforced concrete, steel, iron, or timber, and when of concrete material may be cast in situ. The metal bars may be of angle or T-section.
