Abstract
389,296. Reads ; girders ; slabs. WAAL, J. A. DE, 29, Hoofdweg, Amster-. dam. April 26, 1932, No. 12012. Convention date, May 8, 1931. [Classes 20 (iv), 87 (i), and 107.] A road construction comprises girders arranged with their longitudinal edges in abutting relation, and each girder consists of a concrete filling 3, which may be reinforced, in an open box frame e comprising vertical iron plates 1 connected by bolts 2 as shown in Fig. 3. The joint between adjacent girders may be constituted by mortar which may extend over the upper faces of the girders to form the road surface. The frame may extend above the filling so as to provide a space for asphalt 4, Fig. 3, or paving-blocks 6, Fig. 6. Recesses 5 may extend from the upper surface of the filling to beneath a bolt 2 to enable the latter to be gripped when it is desired to remove a girder. Such recesses may be normally filled with mastic. The girders may be arranged longitudinally of the road and supported by transverse girders, or arranged transversely of the road and curved to correspond with the camber of the road. Various arrangements and shapes of the girders are shown in Figs. 12 to 14. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also an arrangement of the girders which provides triangular spaces between them, as shown in Fig. 13 (Cancelled), and a filling and covering of asphalt is applied. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
