Abstract

579,845. Wireless receiving and electron discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., BENJAMIN, M., GOSSLING, B. S., and RYDE, J. W. Sept. 18, 1940, No. 14315. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v)] A non-linear impedance for a rectifying or mixing stage comprises an auto-electronic discharge passing between two electrodes between which a perforated electrode is maintained at a positive potential. Fig. 2 shows the construction of the device, the discharge taking place between the point 1 and the nickel hemisphere 11. The point is welded to a filament 18 by which it may be heated to clean the surface and a gettering device 21 may be provided and attached to the bee-hive spiral 2 maintained at positive potential. Fig. 1 shows the circuit including a biassing resistance 12 and byepass condensers 4, 13, in which the frequencies to be mixed are applied to primaries 6, 7 and the intermediate frequency is taken off from the circuit 9, 10. The apparatus is particularly for frequencies greater than 100 Mc/s. Specification 576,455, [Group XXVII], is referred to.
