Abstract

579,195. Valve amplifying circuits. HOUCHIN, J. P. W. Dec. 30, 1942, No. 18558. [Class 40 (v)] An arrangement for forming or amplifying pulses of steep wavefront comprises a pair of electron discharge devices with an impedance in the common cathode lead and means to apply input potentials to each of the control electrodes 'relatively to earth or the fixed reference point connected to the impedance in the cathode lead in such proportion that the effects of the capacities between the valve control electrodes and cathodes are eliminated. The Figure shows a pair of valves 1, 2 with a common cathode resistance 3 as described in Specification 482,740, in which an additional input is applied through blocking condenser 12 having a ratio to the input applied through blocking condenser 8 equal to the ratio of Cl to the sum of C1+C2 where C1 is the grid cathode capacity and C2 the capacity shunting the impedance 3. The control electrode of the input valve 1 is preferably not swung appreciably more negative by the input than is necessary to render the valve non-conducting.
