Abstract

689,929. Discharge apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan 8, 1951 [Jan. 11, 1950), No. 524/51. Class 39(i). A discharge device comprises one path, the discharge through 'which produces voltage impulses fed to a load such as a magnetron, and a second path which is conductive in a negative direction with respect to the impulses and is connected in parallel with the load to damp out the small pulses which may occur following each main impulse, the two discharge paths having a common cathode. Discharges between the mercury electrodes 2, 3, Fig. 1, are struck by the glass coated metal rod 4, the impulses being fed through the artificial line 7 and transformer 8 to the cathode 12 and anode 11 of a magnetron 10 which is connected in parallel through the damping resistance 20 with the discharge path between cathode 2 and auxiliary anode 6. The device may comprise an indirectly-heated cathode 14, Fig. 2, control grid 15, screen grid 17 and anode 16; the auxiliary discharge takes place between cathode 14 and anode 18.
