Abstract
578,618. Electron oscillators. M-O VALVE CO., Ltd., HARRIS, N. L., and RYDE, J. W. April 18, 1940, Nos. 7023 and 9563. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii)] In a velocity modulated electron oscillator wherein a stream of electrons passes through a gap in a resonator, the latter is in part within and in part outside of the vacuous space wherein the electrons move. The resonator is formed of annuli 7, 8 semicircular in cross-section welded to flat, Fig. 1, or, conical, Fig. 5, annuli 2, 3 which are attached to the glass tubes 1, 4, 1<1> as described in Specification 514,735. Grids 5, 6 may be placed on the insides of the annuli, or side extensions along the tubes 1, 1<1> may be attached to the annuli; the grids may be in the form of inter-fitting plates 30, Fig. 6, which are placed between the annuli. Specifications 528,041 and 534,144 also are referred to. The first Provisional Specification describes arrangements for tuning the resonator, comprising (i) moving an annular plate between annuli 2, 3 by a differential screw, as in Specification 578,619 ; (ii) contracting the outer, slashed, portions 7, 8 of the resonator together in an axial direction so that they overlap variably.
