Abstract

574,701. Lathe &c. centres. VICTORY ENGINEERS, Ltd., and FISHWICK, R. July 10, 1944, No. 13162. [Class 83 (iii)] In a lathe &c. live centre, particularly as described in Specification 574,702, the grub screw m which closes the lubricating hole for the thrust bearing g is adapted to be screwed inwards to engage a flat n on the shank of the running centre b so that the latter may be locked against rotation to allow regrinding thereof in situ. The centre b is carried by a double ball journal bearing d in the housing e of the shank a and the axial thrust is taken entirely by the ball g. The inner and outer races of the bearings d are a tight fit on the centre and in the housing, respectively, and are held in place by a cap f. Specification 410,968 also is referred to.
