Abstract

575,369. Bearings. TOWLE, A. March 13, 1944, No. 4682. [Class 12 (i)] A ball or roller bearing in which the cage is located radially by making its inner or outer periphery a running fit on the inner or outer race has such periphery formed with a helical groove extending from one axial edge to the other whereby oil from the inner race or from the ambient oil mist is circulated through the locating surface whatever the direction of rotation. Fig. 2 shows the cage 12 separately and Fig. 3 is an enlarged section through the bearing showing the cage 12 as having a running fit on the inner race 10 and a clearance from the outer race 11 ; the helical groove 15 is accordingly provided on the inner periphery of the cage.
