Abstract

677,687. Roller bearings. BRINKMANN, H. Sept. 19, 1950 [Sept. 22, 1949], No. 22981/50. Class 12 (i). In a self-aligning roller thrust-bearing comprising circumferentially-spaced rollers 19, 20 arranged on each side of a collar 4 integral with a shaft 3, race rings 1, 2 arranged at the outer sides of the rollers, and thrust collars 5, 6 having spherical seatings engaged by convex portions of the race rings 1, 2, each thrust collar is adjustably held in the two-part bearing casing 7, 8 by a ring 11, 12 screwed on the respective thrust collar, and free radial space is provided between the shaft and the race rings and thrust collars. The thrust collars are secured against rotation by springs 13, 14 engaging the rings 11, 12 and lock-nuts 27, 28 are provided. A hole 25 is provided in the upper casing 7 so that the race ring 1 may be observed when the bearing is being secured in position and adjusted, and also for introducing lubricating oil into the bearing. A drain opening 26 is disposed in the lower casing 8. Felt packing-rings 21, 22 are held in position by ring-nuts 23, 24.
