573,426. Battery supports on vehicles. MORRISON, A. E., and MORRISON, A. C. Feb. 1, 1944, No. 5139/45. Divided out of 588,821. [Class 103 (ii)] In an electrically-propelled vehicle a battery support comprises fixed transverse members 1 for slidably supporting a battery box 2 and a closure member 12 which is hinged to the outer ends of the bars 1 and is connected or associated with the box, e.g. by the pivoted rods 5 such that by opening or closing the member 12 the box is withdrawn or pushed in the support. The members 1 are connected to struts 7 depending from the vehicle longitudinal 8 and the outer ends are supported by inclined struts 11. The closure member 12 is hinged to spaced members 16 attached to the ends of the transverse members 1 and the hinge bolt 4 carries at each end an eccentric 17 surrounded by a loose ring 18 such that when the closure member is horizontal the ring 18 projects above the level of the member 1. A strut or cable 15 supports the closure member in the open position and the pair of pivoted links 5 embrace the battery box 2 to withdraw the box over the rollers 16 during the action of opening the closure member. The reverse action takes place when the closure member is raised, in which position it is flush with the side 6 of the vehicle.
