A frame 11, Fig. 1, is raised on arms 5, 6 from the chassis 2 of a vehicle by a ram 16 and the vehicle body 29 is subsequently tipped about a pivot 38 on the frame by a ram 22. The ram 16 acts between the arms 5 and the frame 11 through a bar 21 fixed to a shaft 19. The ram 22 is pivoted to a cross-shaft 13 and raises the body 29 through levers 25, 34, 32. The front and rear arms 5, 6, Fig. 4, may be of equal length and for supporting heavy loads levers 40, 43, 44 may be incorporated. One of the rams acts between the chassis and the rear support arms. The rear of the vehicle is supported by telescopic legs 47, Figs. 1, 5. These comprise an inner member 50 which slides in an outer member 48. The inner member is held retracted by a pin 51 which is retained in a horizontal slot 52 by a latch 55. To project the inner member the pin is moved along the horizontal slot 52, down a vertical slot 59 and into an appropriate one of notches 62 where it is held by the weight of the vehicle. In a further embodiment the arms 5, Fig. 4, may be omitted and the points at which the arms 6 are pivoted to the chassis moved to the left in Fig. 4 until they are substantially over the rear wheels.
