Abstract

821,156. Loading overhead rails on vehicles. MARSDEN (COACHBUILDERS) Ltd. March 13, 1958 [Dec. 19, 1956], No. 38641/56. Class 78 (4). Pivoted extensions 14 of rails 11 below the roof of a vehicle body 10 can be moved into and from alignment with the rails 11 hydraulically. As illustrated three such rails are joined by a cross-bar 17 connected at its ends to a pair of hydraulic rams 18 which can move the extensions 17 to a vertically depending position in which they help to retain loads suspended from the rails 11, and into a stowed position folded back under the rails 11, as well as into the aligned position which permits hooks or carriages to slide between the rails 11 and the extensions 14. The rails are of inverted-T section and the flanges 14a of the extensions 14 are bent up to form stops.
