580,711. Extensible hoods for vehicles. DARGAN, J. Aug. 24, 1944, No. 16114. Convention date, Nov. 4, 1943. [Class 108 (i)] An extensible hood for a lorry or similar vehicle consists of a plurality of vertical ribs 4 of inverted-U shape spanning the floor and carrying a cover, which travel on longitudinal guides 6 on either side of the lorry. The ribs 4, are interconnected by two series of pivoted rods, 8 and 9 and pivoted vertical bars 11. Adjacent rods of each series 8, 9, are connected by a hinge plate 10 of inverted-U section, being pivoted at separate points 17, 18 between the arms 16 of the inverted-U. In a lorry with drop sides the guide rail 6 is in two portions, the rear portion being secured to the drop sides and the forward portion to a fixed portion of the sides long enough to accommodate the hood when folded, so that the drop sides may then be lowered. Straps may be attached to prevent the hood from swaying.
