Abstract
573,113. Alloys. JOHNSON & CO. (LONDON), Ltd., and BANO, E. A. Oct. 27, 1942, No. 15090. [Class 82 (i)] Two or more metals are brought into diffusion and /or solid solution, or their miscibility is increased by subjecting the intimately mixed powdered metals to the influence of heat and superatmospheric pressure simultaneously, the resulting alloys being allowed to cool under the superatmospheric pressure. Fine tungsten powder mixed with 5-30 per cent of silver is subjected to a temperature of 750-900‹ C. and a pressure of 5-15 tons per square inch for 10-20 minutes and then allowed to cool while the pressure is maintained. The resulting alloy is suitable for electrical contacts. Copper may be dissolved in aluminium, and silver in copper, in higher proportions than is possible under atmospheric pressure. Brasses having conspicuous resistance to chemical corrosion may be produced. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 544,476.
