Abstract
512,143. Alloys. MALLORY METALLURGICAL PRODUCTS, Ltd. (Mallory & Co., Inc., P. R.). Nov. 19, 1937, No. 29169. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] An alloy which is subjected to age-hardening by heating to 700-1000‹C. for, e.g., 10-30 minutes, quenching and reheating to 300-600‹C. for, e.g., 10-30 minutes without intermediate working, comprises 0.1-10 per cent. of cadmium, 0.6-7 per cent. of nickel (which may be wholly or partly replaced by 1-10 per cent. of cobalt), 0.01-5 per cent. of silicon and the remainder of copper. Up to 5 per cent. of one or more of silver, zinc, calcium, lithium, tin, manganese, iron, titanium and phosphorus may also be present. The alloys may be hot or cold worked prior to the heat-treatment. In making the alloys the constituents, including a part of the copper, are mixed, compressed into briquettes which are coated with slag and added to molten copper. Deoxidizers, fluxes, degasifying reagents may be added. The alloys are suitable for make-and-break contacts, for wheels, wires or shoes for trolleys, commutator segments, collector rings and welding electrode dies. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 288,314, [Class 72].
