Abstract

507,903. Alloys. WHITMAN, H. L. Nov. 16, 1937, No. 31525. [Class 82 (i)] An alloy containing as main ingredients lead and copper and, if desired tin, is made by alloying with these metals an auxiliary alloy comprising copper, nickel, manganese, iron, phosphorus, aluminium, tin, manganese, and silver. In making the auxiliary alloy 72À085 -59À574 parts of copper are melted together with 28-31À426 parts of nickel, to which are added 0À491-2 parts of manganese and 0À491 part of iron, then 0À442-5 parts of phosphorus, and 0À491-1 part of an aluminium alloy containing 88À23 per cent of aluminium, 5À31 per cent of copper, 2À65 per cent of tin, 0À88 per cent of nickel, 0À88 per cent of magnesitun, 1À66 per cent of manganese, and 0À39 per cent of silver. In making this aluminium alloy, the copper, manganese, and nickel are melted together and added to the aluminium which is molten, and the tin and magnesium are added to the resultant mass. The silver is then added. The auxiliary alloy is added in the proportion of 3-10 per cent of the final alloy to copper and then 10-60 per cent of lead are added and, if desired, tin.
