Abstract

571,641. Electrodepositing metals. PYRENE CO., Ltd., BAKER, W. L., and DAY, H. E. T. Feb. 1, 1944, No. 1868. [Class 41] [Also in Group II] Tin-copper alloys are electrodeposited from a bath containing a cyanide using carbon or other insoluble anodes and with the metal content, when depleted by about 4 per cent, made up by adding appropriate salts. An alloy of 40 per cent tin and 60 per cent copper is deposited from a bath containing, in grams per litre, tin (as sodium stannate) 42, copper (as cyanide) 6, free caustic soda 4, and free sodium cyanide 9. The current-density is 30 amps. /ft.<2> and the pH. value between 10.5 and 11.5. A suitable replenishment mixture comprises tin 3.8, copper 5.28, and sodium cyanide 1.0, g.p.l. Specifications 412,277, 425,846, and 525,364 are referred to.
