552,982. Electrodeposition of tin &c. CARNEGIE-ILLINOIS STEEL CORPORATION. July 8, 1942, No. 9511. Convention date, Dec. 10, 1941. [Class 41] In electroplating with tin or alloys thereof (e.g. tin-lead) the metal is deposited from an electrolyte containing fluoboric acid (50 grams per litre), stannous fluoborate (35 grams per litre), and aloin (.25 to 5 grams per litre). The bath is agitated and a high current density of from 150 to 300 amperes per square foot is employed. For terne plating, with an alloy of 20 per cent tin and 80 per cent lead, a bath prepared by electrolysing a solution containing hydrofluoric and boric acids, basic lead carbonate, and aloin, using tin anodes, until a tin concentration of 17 grams per litre is attained, is employed.
