Abstract
544,534. Deposition of palladium. MOND NICKEL CO., Ltd. May 3, 1941, No. 5777. Convention date, May 20, 1940. [Class 41] Palladium is deposited from a hydrochloric acid solution of the chloride having a pH value of 2.1 or below, preferably between 0 and .5, maintained by periodical addition of the acid, soluble anodes of palladium prepared by melting in vacuum or under oxidising conditions preferably being employed. The bath contains per litre from 10 to 175 grams of palladium, preferably from 25 to 50, from 50 to 700 c.c. of concentrated hydrochloric acid, and may contain ammonium chloride in an amount ranging from 2.5 to 50, preferably 20 to 50, grams. Conducting salts or buffering agents may be present. The bath is preferably air-agitated, the temperature being conveniently maintained about 50 C. and a current density of 10 amperes per square foot being used. With baths of high palladium concentration higher current densities can be used with insoluble anodes, the palladium content being replenished by addition of a palladium salt or solution obtained by dissolving the metal anodically prepared in a separate cell.
