Abstract
474,582. Electrodeposition of nickel. MOND NICKEL CO., Ltd. May 8, 1937, No. 13233. Convention date, Nov. 16, 1936. [Class 41] Bright platings of nickel are deposited from a bath containing a soluble nickel salt and blood albumen or egg albumen. Suitable baths consist of nickel sulphate, ammonium sulphate, a chloride, such as sodium chloride, and a sulphate of an alkali metal or magnesium, together with the colloidal agent. They are operated at a pH value not less than 6À7 but below that at which basic nickel salts are precipitated, i.e. about 7À0, and at a temperature of 25-55 C. The albumen is preferably added in the form of a concentrated solution obtained by digesting albumen with a solution of nickel sulphate or of nickel and sodium sulphates and boiling, the coagulated part of the albumen then being filtered off; 1--- 20 cc. of such a solution are added per litre of electrolyte. Bright deposits are obtained with a current density of 2 amps. per sq. dcm. at a temperature of 50 C.; with higher current densities or temperatures the deposits are less bright but are easy to polish.
