Abstract

571,319. Compressed-air engines. BROOM & WADE, Ltd., and BROOM, H. S. Nov. 30. 1943, No. 20005. [Classes 122 (ii) and 122 (iii)] In a rotary cylinder compressed air &c. engine having a coaxial stationary distributing valve 27, an exhaust passage 31 is provided in the valve stem and admission ports 34 are formed in the periphery of the valve head. The valve head may be conical and is held on its seat in the cylinder block by the pressure of admission air acting on a collar 36 on the valve stem. This collar has a wedge engagement with a manually operated valve adjusting, sleeve 41, whereby any tendency for the valve to rotate is counteracted by the wedge action between the parts, lifting it from its seat. The valve adjusting sleeve 41 is held in its central neutral position by a spring 45 and is geared to a rotary admission throttle valve 51. The radial cylinder block is splined on the driven shaft 22 to facilitate dismantling.
