Abstract

566,416. Valves. BOORER, A. April 19, 1943, Nos. 6222 and 20102. [Class 7 (vi)] A rotary valve comprises a tubular member 15 formed with axially-displaced ports 35, 36 adapted to register with mixture and compressed air inlets 27, 22 in a casing 13 and corresponding ports in a fixed core 17, the ports leading to a common outlet 37 controlled by a port 39 in the rotor and axially displaced from the inlets 22, 27. A similar tubular member 17 controls the exhaust, dividing it into two streams. Ball bearings 74, 70 support the tubular members on the cores and the core 14 of the exhaust valve is water-cooled. The valves may open into a chamber separated from the working cylinder by a master poppet valve actuated by a cam-shaft geared directly to pinions 40, 41 which drive the valves at half crank-shaft speed.
