The jaw b<2> is provided with slots inclinec in different directions whereby the rod d may be held at the desired angle by the jaw b' of substanti. ally triangular cross sec tion. The jaws are closed by a compression spring h in the leg a' adjusted by a screw i passing through an abutment m against which presses an arm n secured to the leg a<2>. The legs are pivoted at a point o on a bracket p attached to the leg a<1>. In a modification the jaws are provided with extensions which permit the welding rod to be held in position at right angles to the slots shown.
