Abstract
570,749. Jointing; repairing castings. SCOTT, L. B. July 1, 1943, No. 10688. [Classes 83 (i) and 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XXV] An elongated body provided with projections to be inserted in a corresponding groove 16 in a cast, forged or other article 10 in order to reinforce or repair it after it has been cracked or fatigued at 13, includes means associated with the side of the body and engaging the bottom of the groove to expand the composite body when this is forced into said groove 16. The main portion 11 of the body may be of the alloy known under the Registered Trade Mark " Invar " or other ductile metal which becomes hardened by working and the expanding means of a harder metal. The main portion 11 may have a number of bulges 17 or recesses 27, Fig. 3, and the expanding means may comprise a wedge 29 or a number of tapered pins 19, Fig. 2. The wedge may have an obtuse apex or a curved upper face 156, Fig. 15, to engage a more sharply curved face 155 of the body 11. Such a wedge may also have parallel or inclined sided projections 66, Fig. 18, to engage recesses in the body 11. If pins are used, these may each have a pyramid 45, Fig. 12, to engage a corresponding recess in the article 10 and a truncated pyramid 46 to engage a somewhat smaller recess 47 in the main portion 11. When used to reinforce a corner 30, Fig. 8, of an article, the outer face 33 is angular and the inner part may be divided up into projections 36, Fig. 7, each engaging a corresponding recess in'the article and containing a tapered pin 19.
