Abstract

561,012. Cotters. ELECTRIC STEEL FOUNDRY. April 21, 1942, No. 5343. Convention date, April 21, 1941. [Classes 65 (ii) and 89 (ii)] A locking device for a load supporting pin comprises a cotter en - gaging transversely a groove in the pin. A chain repair link comprises sections 1, 2 that may pivot about the pin 3, and each has a load sustaining portion 4 and a slighter end portion 5 seated in a recess in the part 6 of the other section. Transverse holes in the parts 5 register with grooves 14 in the pin 3 and receive cotter pins 16 secured in place by upsetting the ends. The pins may be removed by a hammer and punch. A pin may be similarly secured in a shackle, or one end of the pin may have a head. The pin may be received in holes leading into the grooves in the pin tangentially so that the pin 39, Fig. 9, is bent through a short arc when it passes through the groove, thus giving a greater area of shear and preventing removal of the pin except by a punch.
