Abstract

556,366. Oval link chains. PIERRE, H. ST. April 22, 1942, No. 5392. [Class 24] A chain link which may be used for building up a chain with solid forged links 10, consistsof two generally U-shaped parts 12, 13. The ends of the links in each part are offset from the plane of the parts as at 18, 32 by a straight forging operation, one of the offset portions on each half-link being formed with an opening 26 and the other with a thick plug or pin 36. The apertured end is made thicker than the end carrying the pin. The forging operation forms the shoulders 19, 22, and 33, 35. The parts are connected by inserting the pin of one into the aperture of the other and either riveting the pins or detachably securing them by nuts.
