550,096. Making chains. STEVENS, H., and TIMMINGTON, J. T. June 29, 1942, No. 8927. [Class 83 (ii)] A chain link of the kind having a cross-piece at the centre of the link is made from a single length of iron, steel or brass by first shaping a circular or other bar a to provide a lateral portion b projecting at a right angle or rather more than a right angle and also to provide a butt end c at the junction of the portions a, b and then bending the bar to bring the outer end e of the portion b into contact with or close to the side of the portion a and then to bring the end c into contact with the end d, these ends being then welded together. After forming the portion b it may be shaped to concave form and the outer end e may be concaved and the ends c, d formed convex. The end e may be welded to the part a. The link when partly formed may be engaged with a similar completed link f.
