Abstract

1,068,358. Chains. AMERICAN CHAIN & CABLE CO. Inc. May 31, 1965 [July 13, 1964], No. 23057/65. Heading F2Q. Each link of a welded steel oval link chain comprises end portions (b) which are harder and less ductile than the side portions (a) interconnecting the end portions, to combine good elongation characteristics of the side portions with good wear resistance and bending and shear strength of the end portions. The chain is heated and quenched to harden it, and is then differentially tempered, the side portions of each link being tempered at a higher temperature than the end portions.
