Abstract

547,862. Chains. PARKES, T. J. June 25, 1941, No. 7990. [Class 24] [Also in Group XXII] Chain links are made from two sections each having a loop 10 and end portions 11 lying adjacent to each other and overlapping the end portions of the other section to which they are secured by welding &c. Instead of the end portions being welded together, they may be welded to an intermediate member 28 as shown in Fig. 16, and each section may be twisted so that the loops lie in the same place. The overlapping portions may be formed with flats which engage one another, and may be provided with notches or recesses to provide keying for the welding metal. To avoid the formation of shoulders at the connection of the sections, the ends may be made converging and cut obliquely to lie parallel in the closed position. A chain is built up by engaging pairs of sections with the ends lying in opposite directions, and connecting them to the ends of similar pairs.
